David Bell

Turning ‘soft skills’ into ‘hard currency’ is what David is all about. After a successful career as a singer, composer and musician, he moved into the fields of human and organisational development and rapidly established a reputation for unlocking people’s potential.

In 1996, David’s approach to delivering world-class performance was spotted by the MD of DHL International, who wanted to bring his influential mindset and skills into his business. David became DHL’s #1 global sales performer in under a year. Over the next 9 years, he carved out a world-class reputation for delivering results at DHL and also through an impressive track record of leadership roles within global businesses such as FedEx, Marriott Hotels and Unilever to name a few.

In early 2005, David was asked to join the hugely influential consulting firm of leadership guru Dr Stephen R Covey (author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”) as Area Director. He held the role for 4 years and got to understand, and work in partnership with, some of the biggest brands, most innovative companies, most inspiring cultures and most dynamic leaders in the world.

In working with such a diverse range of businesses over 13 years, David discovered that world-class individuals, teams and organisations in business had remarkably similar approaches to those used by world-class musicians, ensembles and orchestras. This discovery led David to create what is now an internationally recognised change methodology The Organisational Orchestra helping thousands of individuals, teams and organisations around the world to manage change and improve performance by firstly challenging them to think, and behave, more effectively.

His acclaimed M.U.S.I.C Performance Principles then serve to help people, teams and businesses to ‘do it, not talk about doing it’ – giving them mindsets, skills and systems to execute and deliver world-class results to their audience.

To date, David has delivered keynotes, master classes and complete custom change solutions globally for a range of clients including The BBC, Jaguar Land Rover, Costco, Manchester United FC, The NHS, Nissan, ASDA WAL MART, The Wildlife Trust, Sony Ericsson, The Scottish Parliament, Rolls Royce, Walt Disney, Whitbread and Virgin.

David also still performs internationally as a singer with his own stable of Big Band orchestras and ensembles, as well as being a successful arranger, songwriter and composer.

Plan to go back to school for music

Think Again’s Marc Jaffrey OBE gives his initial response to the publication of the National Plan for Music Education. Marc welcomes the government’s ‘unswerving commitment’ to music in the lives of young people, but warns that schools are where the power really lies to protect music in children’s education. “This is a big plan, literally [...]
